On Thursday evening, I attended a great Portuguese class.  It was held at the South American Explorer’s clubhouse in San Telmo – a trek from my Palermo office and apartment, but well worth the trip.  Professor Silvina Sampayo was full of energy, creativity and charm and I walked off confident enough to call up my Carioca (term used to call people from Rio de Janeiro) friends and throw down a few of my new phrases in conversation.

Apart from that, yesterday at Niceto Club, Bossacucanova put on a great show.  Think Bossa-Jazz-Electronic-Funk with all the “buena onda” (good vibrations, or happiness) that the Brasilians always seem to have and bring to every situation.  Here’s a little taste of their show in Rio..
