Eating for Less $$$
It’s all about good deals, great discounts and how to save a peso, weather you’re dining at a discount or just simply aching for a night out with your friends.
These days nearly everyone is tightening their belts. That doesn’t necessarily mean that you literally have to do it. You can still go out to dinner and fill your belly with a great meal on the cheap.
Here are some dining deals for nearly every day of the week:
Sunday Brunch: swing by Chinatown for some afternoon empanadas, soups, dumplings and eggrolls. Walk down
Arribeños and buy from vendors making delicious food in the moment. Engage in the culturally rich atmosphere and you’ve got a midday special that is super friendly on your wallet.
On Monday make a stop at Angelin. If you’re craving pizza and wine in the Palermo / Villa Crespo neighborhood, this is the place for you. Open seven days a week until quite late, you can eat at the sit down restaurant in the back or for an authentic experience that saves time and money, you can order your pizza from the server in the front and eat in the traditional Porteno style – standing up. Located at Cordoba 5270, this pizzeria is reknown for its flavorful thick crust pizza sold by the portion.
Now, for a bite on Tuesday, head to Club Eros. Locals from Palermo have been rolling into this local “Club del Barrio” for the atmosphere, indoor football, tango lessons and cheap eats. Choices include a perfectly grilled steak (medio bife de chorizo), killer french fries, salads, pastas and a variety of milanesas – all in generous proportions with reasonable prices. Definitely not a tourist trap. The waiters are used to high volumes – they take your orders, serve the food – but certainly aren’t there to hold your hand. (Uriarte 1609)
For those of you looking for a special treat, check out Sarkis. I’ve written about this restaurant before and they
provide a wide range Armenian style (arabic) dishes for people on a budget. Expect a bit of a wait if you don’t arrive early – as it’s no secret that this is a place to get a bang for your buck (or peso, for that matter).
For Thursday lunch, Zadvarie is the place for you. This Peruvian restaurant that seats about twenty on the main floor and another twenty on the terrace provides some great executive lunch specials with Peruvian flair that steer away from the typical Argentine steaks or empanadas. Zadvarie is located at Uriarte 1423, in Palermo Soho. And on weekdays from 12:30-3:30, their three
course prix fixe menu is an absolute steal.
*UPDATE: Zadvarie is now closed..
On Friday, head to The New Brighton for some after work drinks in an atmosphere set for an old English gentleman’s club with its dark mohagany walls and beautiful stained glass ceilings. When you order your drinks, the waiter offers you a plate of warm and cold delicious tapas to keep you going through to the evening. Located just off Florida Street on Sarmiento 645, it’s the perfect place for informal after work drinks. In the evenings, a pianist performs in the background as you let the work week leave your mind, and as you can see the selection of tapas quite large.
There are a few suggestions to keep you rolling. Now you know that you can enjoy a great meal without breaking the bank.
