HOT

HOT \hɒt\ adj: having a high or higher than desirable temperature or givving off heat or feeling or causing a sensation of heat or burning; very popular or successful; newest or most recent.

GREEK-CHIC

Sorry Maradonna, but we’ve fallen head over Achilles heel and, this summer, Greece is the word.  What to wear on the way to the forum? While it is believed that true Greek warriors fought barefoot, their footwear is so hot this season you’d swear you were on the set of 300.  So add a dost of Coliseum-chic in with a pair worth going into battle for.  Viva La Diva Showroom has a designer line that exudes Greek-chic.  For an aspiring Aphrodite, there are some demure sandals featuring a flat heel and sparkles to lend a feminine flair.  If, however, you’re more of a Spartan shopper, Lucerna and Paruolo offer timeless faux-leather styles in gold that criss-crosses at the toe and wraps around the ankle.

As temperatures climb, I think more and more on Viva La Diva Showroom’s selection. They’re the ones that I want.  Available by appointment only:Contact Mariu – 15.31.80.28.42. They’re located in Palermo Soho and they’re offering a special Buenos Aires Style discount for a limited time.

BEACH BUMMING

If you’re a gringa in Buenos Aires, perhaps the thought of other people seeing you in a bikini is enough to give you hives all over your untanned body – especially if you’ve just arrived from the cold and wintry northern hemisphere.  But rather than hide under a moo-moo, why not boost your confidence with a pair of hot sunglasses

and a fabulous new suit.  Wearing those mismatched pieces in your dresser drawers isn’t quite trendy enough for the beaches along the Argentine, Uruguayan and Brazilian coasts.

Argentine women, in general, are pretty skinny.  So if you’ve got a body that can fit into almost any style, check out Mada (El Salvador 4863).  Otherwise, let’s look to our neighbors to the north for some beach inspiration – that’s right – the Brasilians.

See, in the US, I had such a hard time finding that right bikini for the new season.  If it wasn’t color, it was the bottoms, too big, too small, too out of style… I thought that I was just destined to not look awesome while on the beach.  That was until I went to Rio de Janeiro.

As I stepped onto Copacabana Beach in a mismatched H&M bikini and my boyfriend with his typical beach shorts – the two of us walked no longer than 40 feet when we realized that we were both way overdressed.  There were grandmothers in thongs. There were fat ladies in thongs.  There were men in thongs even!! The thing is – everyone was beautiful. Everyone was comfortable.  People walked in bikinis along the streets.  Best of all, I felt comfortable in my own skin.  And with that confidence I bought my first Brasilian bikini.  It’s not a thong bikini, but for the $40 that I paid, it was worth every penny.  Bright pink with a white floral pattern hand sewn in and sequins that give it a special sparkle in the sunlight.

Today I bought my second Brasilian bikini.  It’s a little blue-green halter top with a wooden closure in the front, designed by Maria Moraes, a Brasilian who owns a very sexy lingerie store that also sells some bikinis she’s designed herself as well as others imported from Brasil. Best of all, prices are very affordable. She’s got something for everyone – no matter what size you are. La Femme Charman (Uriarte 1327 between Cabrerra and N. Vega) 4772-3166 (Credit cards only for now).

If you get a chance to hit Brasil, don’t hesitate to check out some of these lovely designers – Rosa Cha is one of my absolute favorites.  Have you seen me in my Rosa Cha?  mmm hmm.  I get compliments all around.  Some of these designers may even me available in your home country before you travel here.  Although prices are probably better in South America.
