Inauguration Day
I am so proud to be a part of history in the making. In just a few hours, Barack Obama will be sworn in as the 44th president of the United States. He’ll also be the first African-American president of my country.
Just to think last year, I began to hear about the Democrats Abroad Argentina. It was through Yanqui Mike and his great website that I joined Dems Abroad and began to really concern myself with the outcome of our future election. I was astonished by the great event planning and organization efforts made by Alicia Blumencweig for the debate parties – and moreso, I was emotionally moved to see not only Americans, but Argentines, Australians, English, Germans – people from all over – coming together at these parties to support change and share their hope.
I felt so proud to be American and to be part of this historical movement. I can’t thank Democrats Abroad enough for letting me be a part of of it all. Last time you read about the Dems Abroad – there was a problem. Some of the members of the committee wanted to maliciously and undeservedly oust Mike as Chairman of the committee and through their actions, everyone needed to resign in order to maintain the legitimacy of the Argentina chapter of Democrats Abroad.
With re-elections coming up soon, Mike will be running again as Chairman of the Argentine committee with an outstanding and capable group of people running with him. They have my full support. They are running as the Progressive Ticket and are as follows:
Chairman: Mike Skowronek
Vice-Chair: Deby Novitz
Secretary: Maria Motta
Treasurer: Frank Almeida
Counsel: Matthew Johnson
I know these people take their positions seriously, and if they screw up, I know that they will take responsibility. But I challenge you to decide for yourself.
Today is a new day.
There will be a celebration for the inauguration of the new President, Barack Obama at Sugar – Costa Rica 4619.
I will be there and I hope to see you there too. If you want to come and see who these people are – talking about the New Democrats Abroad Argentina – they will be there to answer our questions.
More importantly, we can come together to celebrate a good day. A day of hope and change that we can share no matter our language or background.
You’ve come a long way, America.
