I’ve decided….

I’ve decided….

I want an iphone.

But I can’t afford it, so I’ll just stay wanting one.. First of all, iphones are ridiculously expensive here.  Think 4x their value in the states… more probably.  Then try to find a 3G in stores.. where? None of the Movistar stores that I’ve been in have one to look at – Movistar is my carrier. I’m not switching carriers.

I have finally come to terms for my desire for an iphone after reading this great article by Erin Biba for Wired Online called “Inside the GPS Revolution: 10 Applications That Make the Most of Location“.

I have two friends who have the iphone.  Both got their unlocked iphones abroad (one from the US and the other from Brazil).  My one friend Mariu explained to me that buying an iphone from abroad was the only way to keep costs down if you have an iphone – because if you buy one here, there are extra fees and services to pay for here.. I don’t understand fully, but if someone could explain that one to me, I would love to know.

My other friend Mary says that none of the applications she used in Brazil work here.  I think that we’re coming into a moment in time in Argentina where these applications will be more widely available. For example, in December of this year, Google Maps finally mapped the streets of Buenos Aires.. I would love to use that.

I also want to be able to update my twitter, facebook and blog from my iphone.  I would love to skype my friends while sitting away from my computer.  Sigh.

I’ll keep dreaming.
